At Ride For Your Life, we are passionate about making biking, walking, and all forms of transportation safe for everyone.
Begun with our first ride in Washington, D.C. in the wake the 2022 death of mother and U.S. diplomat Sarah Debbink Langenkamp, our rides and walks aim to bring families, advocates, and elected leaders together to demand better — better infrastructure, better policies, and better laws — to protect all those who use our roads.
Past Rides have attracted thousands or riders in Washington, D.C.; Boulder Colorado; Madison, WI; Boston, MA; and Sasketoon, Canada. The 2026 rides in Boston, Madison and Washington mark a new phase for the organization following the establishment of the Ride for Your Life 501c3 organization..
Our work has resulted in laws in Maryland and Colorado, introduction of two laws in the U.S. Congress, and national media attention, generating urgently needed focus upon the crisis on our roadways.
More than 36,000 people died on American roads last year, making traffic crashes one of the top forms of preventable death in America. Death rates of people biking and walking are particularly high, reaching decades-long highs in 2023 and 2024.
Addressing this scourge, our events have already brought change. In 2022, the first ride in Washington, D.C., helped obtain $50 million appropriation for the previously authorized, but as-yet unfunded, Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program (ATIIP). The ride also resulted in the introduction of the Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Active Transportation Safety Act (HR 2011/S 944) by Representative Jamie Raskin (MD) and Earl Blumenauer (OR). Re-introduced in the 119th Congress, the bill is both bipartisan and bicameral, and is likely to be included in the next Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act (STRA). The Boulder, Colorado, “Ride for Magnus: Ride for Your Life” resulted in introduction of the Magnus White Cyclist Safety Act by Congressman Joe Neguse (CO) and Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (NY), also under consideration for the STRA.
Rides have also assisted passage of several state and local-level laws. These have included the Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Memorial Safety Act in Maryland and several bills in Colorado, including those to increase penalties on drivers who kill and require mandatory drug and alcohol testing of drivers involved in serious crashes. The 2025 Ride in Washington also urged passage of a bill (HB107/SB366) in the current session of the Maryland General Assembly to place speed governors in the cars of so-called super speeders, responsible for a disproportionate number of deaths on U.S. roads. The bill passed in both houses of the Maryland General Assembly in March 2026 and is expected to receive a full vote imminently.
Stay tuned for 2026 event dates.
